In this computer
age that we live in, when sophisticated machines can scan every single
part of our body, isn’t it ironic to use remedies that rely on studies
from centuries ago?
Sure, we are skeptical.
We live in the “future age” and we have to take pills or drops that our
ancestors used. Is it wise? Aren’t there any newer drugs? And what
is the sense of taking little pills that all look the same?

Homeopathy is not
a religion or a faith. It’s not a type of medicine based on suggestion
or something like: “you have to believe in…”. On the contrary, homeopathy
is an exact science that is very difficult to learn. This is the reason
why it was not widespread throughout the world.
There are over 3000
homeopathic remedies. The indications are vague and the parameters
cannot be gathered in protocols. Protocol means: same indications for same
individuals. Homeopathy is the medicine of the individual and individuality.
No patient is equal to another one; no disease has the same manifestations
in different patients. Are we coming back to magicians? Absolutely not.

Homeopathy means
that the doctor must consider the patient as a person not a group of organs.
He is not a machine. He has something different. He has a soul. During
recent years, homeopathic therapies have improved everywhere. There’s a
changing way of taking care of our own health (less aggressive drugs, more
natural remedies) but there’s also a different way of thinking by the doctors.
Traditional medicine
cannot cure every disease. There is much pathology for which chemical drugs
are ineffective. Thus, people seem more interested in “alternative medicine”,
a generic term which indicates therapies coming from ancient studies. Chinese
studies offer acupuncture, Indians ayurvedic medicine, and Europeans homeopathy.

A German doctor,
Samuel Hahnemann, created the term homeopathy at the end of the eighteenth
century. He showed that a substance that can be lethal in normal doses
could heal the same symptoms if it were diluted in very low doses.
That is what Hippocrates
said many centuries ago: “poisonous substances depend from their doses
and similar substances can heal similar symptoms”. Going towards homeopathy
means upsetting the traditional doctor’s visit. It means understanding
that symptoms are a sort of patient feeling. Disease too can be considered
a patient feeling. Therapy must not cancel symptoms and signs. Therapy
must heal the whole patient. In other words: the patient must feel better.

Considering homeopathy,
one can make two big mistakes. The first one is to think that homeopathy
can heal only psychosomatic diseases where the doctor can encourage the
patient with some appropriate words.
This is absolutely
untrue. The good homeopathic doctor must look for exact signs and symptoms
and make the correct diagnosis. With correct homeopathic remedies he’ll
be able to treat not only minor diseases like the flu, but also chronic
pathologies such as dermatitis, pneumonia or hepatitis.

The
second mistake is to look for protocols or something that can be used for
everyone, for example trying to lower a high fever in a short time.
Fever is not a disease, but a patient’s reaction.
The homeopathic doctor
must “follow” the fever, understanding why the patient has a fever and
helping his body to heal by itself. The homeopathic doctor doesn’t look
for the “fever remedy”, but for the remedy for that specific patient with
a specific personality. Besides a few common remedies, no homeopathic remedy
can be prescribed for everyone. Any remedy has its own peculiarity and
it must be prescribed only for a specific patient.
